About Lakeshore Design Center, Inc.

In 1997, there was an 87 year old New York Central Railroad Freight Depot that was in sad condition slated to become a parking lot.  The Depot was a replacement for the original one that burned down in May 1910. We couldn’t let this happen, so we bought the building and slowly brought back the beautiful landmark that we could see in our imagination.  We started out with a small showroom, offices, and a warehouse.  Over time The Depot was lovingly restored and served as our office premises and showroom until September 2011.  Due to our store expansion, we had long since had to relocate our warehouse to another location. Eventually we needed more space so we sold The Depot to Trine University who allowed us to help them redesign it as a restaurant, while keeping the century old freight-house look.  We reside in a larger building that once was the location of the Hendry House Hotel.  The Hotel was a beautiful building but unfortunately it burned down in 1969.  Sound familiar?  We are slowly adding touches to bring back some of the feel of the hotel.

At the Lakeshore Design Center we embrace imagination.  We have been in business in various guises since 1981.  We offer Interior and Exterior design services, the ability to oversee your project from start to finish, if you wish, and the ability for you to buy our products installed, or cash and carry.   At our store you can find many fine home products that you didn’t even know you were looking for.  We supply from cabinets and furniture, to window treatments and artwork.  We have a full line of gifts and décor to suit your taste.  Many of our products are made right here in the good old U.S.A.  Some of them are one of a kind.  We appreciate “going Green”, and that is why we offer new, vintage, recycled, natural, and repurposed items.  If you have something you cherish, but it doesn’t quite fit your home, you can bring your piece or pieces, from pictures to furniture.  Our main Designer is Janny O’Connell who has won many awards, over the years, for her creative touches.  She is partnered with her husband, Dennis Spidel, who has also won many awards.  They are backed up by a fine staff , including designers, craftsmen, and installers, some who have been with them for over 20 years.   Enjoy your online tour through our store and we hope to see you soon.
